My specialties include sophisticated technical issues, especially posture and breathing ("appoggio") and other aspects of the historic Italianate "bel canto" tradition.
My pedagogic influences include my own teachers Dale Moore and Luigi Ricci, the writings of Richard Miller, Lamperti, Herbert-Caesare, and countless great teachers, authors, colleagues, and conductors.
As a teacher I've had particular success in working with high voice singers, guiding them toward more effortless high notes, more nuanced breath management, and a greater vocal joy and expressiveness.
My professional vocal students have appeared all over the globe:
San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, San Jose Opera, Sacramento Opera, Philharmonia Baroque, Carnegie Hall, Metropolitan Opera, Lincoln Center, Covent Garden, regional opera companies throughout the USA, and on other great concert halls, jazz stages, and musical theater productions around the world.
