Learn to Use Breath,
Voice, and Music for
Health and Well-being

"I discovered a wonderful new place
in my heart through my voice."

- private student

I have private students in my Carmel Studio who are not primarily interested in "voice lessons." They simply want to manage the stress of their daily lives, and perhaps become more confident and expressive in their speaking voice. Over the past few years these students have included teachers, ministers, lawyers, doctors, nurses, and therapists.

Sounds influence
our feelings and thoughts.

In the early 1990s I met Don Campbell, a pioneer in the study of the interaction of music, sound and health (and author of the best-seller The Mozart Effect). We became good friends, and ultimately created a series of "mind-body" workshops in which we combined our shared love of music, sound, and health.

In 1994 and 1995, at Don's encouragement, I participated in a year-long intensive certification program sponsored by the Institute for Music, Health and Education in Minneapolis. During this time I also intensified my study of Yoga and other eastern and Western methods of inner awareness.

Breathe your stress away!

Breath is life, and the more conscious we are of our breathing, the more control we have over it.

I teach simple, relaxing breathing exercises - things you can do anywhere, anytime - to manage stress and help you relax.

The effects can be amazing: the breath softens and deepens, thoughts are quieted, listening awareness is enhanced. The mind focuses inward on the rich interplay of physical sensations, energies, and feelings.

Vocal sounds can relax you...

You can learn to use your own voice to relax and manage stress. You don't have to be a singer, or even read music.

Simple vocal sounds can help to synchronize the brainwaves, and can help relieve tension within a few minutes.

...and teach you
        the "Art of Listening"

My approach also developes your voice-ear connection: it enhances your power of listening to everything around you.

Lessons with me are not just about "singing"

I can teach you how to use your own voice and breath to enhance your physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. Use your breath to relax and focus your mind. Enhance your "soundscape" by choosing music to listen to during your daily activities. Become more aware of the power of sound on your moods and learning styles. Be able to make wiser and more "sound" choices as you move through the day.
