The story of J. S. Bach and the greatest job application ever written
J. S. Bach was never a “free-lance” musician: he was a middle-class employee all his life. In his 47-year working career, Bach held six very different musical jobs, and for all those years he received a paycheck. Cash actually. He was also paid with bushels of wheat and barley, stacks of firewood, and sometimes even beer. He worked for churches, city councils, and princes, and coped with jail time, the deaths of his children and wife, and the the oppressions of 18th century serfdom.
David Gordon - Education Director of the Carmel Bach Festival, world-renowned performer of Bach’s vocal music, and master storyteller - describes the major events in Bach's "job history", culminating with the amazing story of the Mass in B Minor - the greatest job application ever written!
Presented by the Carmel Bach Festival as an introduction to its 71st season, July 19-August 9. The Mass in B Minor will be featured at this year's Festival. For Festival information and tickets, visit online: www.bachfestival.org
